Murals Turns Famous Fairy Tales Into A Silly Action-Adventure

Dlala Studios, the developer behind Disney Illusion Island and Battletoads, has announced Murals, an isometric action-adventure game that reimagines classic fairy tales with dark comedic twists. Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, the game deconstructs beloved stories including Hansel and Gretel, The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, and Sleeping Beauty—but not as audiences remember them.

In Murals’ twisted versions, Rapunzel’s hair actively tries to kill her, while Sleeping Beauty suffers from debilitating insomnia after weeks without sleep. Players control a nameless hero battling through these corrupted fairy tale worlds, assisted by “Eeries”—mystical, haunted creatures the developers describe whimsically as “doo-dads and whatchamacallits.” These entities enhance gameplay during combat encounters.

The game launches on PC in 2027 and features UK comedian Bob Mortimer, adding to the absurdist tone. With this project, Dlala Studios continues building on its reputation for quirky, character-driven experiences blending action gameplay with unconventional humor.
