Newzoo: Global games market to generate $213.9bn in 2026, up 6.1% YoY

According to market research firm Newzoo’s forthcoming Global Games Market Report, the worldwide games industry is projected to reach $213.9 billion in revenue during 2026, representing a 6.1% year-on-year increase. The report indicates that consumer spending will remain heavily concentrated, with China and the United States accounting for more than half of global market revenue.

The console gaming segment is forecast to generate $46.9 billion, comprising 22% of the total market, with a 5.1% annual growth rate. The anticipated November 2026 launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to significantly impact this segment, driving an anticipated 17.5% increase in full-game spending—identified by Newzoo as the strongest growth rate among all business models in the gaming industry.

Mobile gaming continues to dominate the market landscape, projected to command 57% of global consumer spending and reach $121.1 billion in revenue. This represents a 6.8% increase compared to 2025, demonstrating the persistent strength of the mobile gaming segment despite competition from console and PC platforms.

The data reveals a maturing market with steady but moderate growth, where regional concentration in two key markets and platform diversification remain defining characteristics. The projected impact of major AAA title releases, particularly Grand Theft Auto 6, underscores the continued importance of blockbuster game launches in driving revenue growth across hardware platforms.
