Report: Among Us 3D co-dev Schell Games lays off staff
Schell Games, the studio best known for co-developing Among Us 3D and creating the I Expect You to Die series, has conducted its first-ever staff layoffs. Multiple LinkedIn posts from employees confirmed the cuts began last Friday.
A principal engineering manager at the studio acknowledged the layoffs, noting that while they themselves were not affected, they felt for “my former coworkers who were.” The statement emphasized that the job cuts were not a result of individual performance, stating: “This has happened not because of anything you did or did not do. Our industry (and beyond) right now is hemorrhaging.”
Marketing director Dwayne Waite Jr. corroborated the reports and confirmed that the marketing team was affected by the cuts, publicly naming four impacted employees.
The layoffs reflect broader challenges within the video game industry, which has experienced significant workforce reductions throughout the past year. The engineering manager’s characterization of the industry as “hemorrhaging” underscores widespread concerns about the sector’s current economic and employment landscape.
Schell Games has not released an official public statement regarding the number of affected employees or other details beyond what employees shared on social media. The studio, which was founded in 2006, has maintained a presence in both VR and traditional game development, with Among Us 3D marking its involvement in the massively popular Among Us franchise.
