Journey maker thatgamecompany announces thatgamepublisher
thatgamecompany, the studio behind Journey and Sky: Children of the Light, has announced the launch of thatgamepublisher, a new publishing division dedicated to bringing “emotionally ambitious games” to players. The publishing arm will be funded by profits generated from Sky: Children of the Light.
According to co-founder Jenova Chen, thatgamepublisher has already secured “a couple” of game titles, though none have been released yet. SJ Xue, who leads the publishing company, emphasized that the publisher will not restrict itself by genre, platform, or project size, stating that it remains “open to teams of any size, projects at any stage, and ideas still being prototyped.” The company’s primary focus will be on whether a game reaches for meaningful experiences rather than fitting a particular label or commercial formula.
This expansion marks thatgamecompany’s entry into the publishing sector, leveraging the financial success of its free-to-play title Sky to support emerging creators and bold, unconventional game concepts.
