Rainbow 6 Tactics Looks Like If Siege And XCOM: Chimera Squad Had A Baby

Ubisoft announced Rainbow Six Tactics at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, marking the franchise’s first single-player game in nearly two decades. The turn-based tactical game launches in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S at $49.99.

The game draws direct inspiration from XCOM: Chimera Squad, featuring turn-based squad tactics with destructible environments and reconnaissance drones from Rainbow Six Siege. Players command 15 fan-favorite Operators from Siege while taking the role of Paul “Six” Bishop from the Vegas series, now leading Rainbow from a command position rather than the field. The narrative unfolds across a global conspiracy during the collapse of Rainbow between Siege’s 10th and 11th years, supported by 47 handcrafted maps and 90 minutes of cutscenes.

Each Operator comes equipped with unique gadgets and special abilities, allowing for varied tactical approaches to missions. The game supports optional permadeath and Ironman mode, catering to hardcore tactical fans. Players can upgrade their headquarters between missions to unlock new skills and gather intelligence, with an intel map layer providing high-level mission management similar to mainline XCOM titles.

Ubisoft Paris, the studio behind Mario + Rabbids’ successful tactical adaptations, leads development. The announcement represents a notable genre shift for Rainbow Six, which has been defined by competitive multiplayer gameplay in recent years, offering a fresh avenue for long-time fans seeking single-player experiences.
