W4 Games raises $18M to expand its international team
W4 Games, the commercial services company founded by the creators of the open-source Godot game engine, has raised $18 million in Series B funding to accelerate its growth and expand its international presence.
The funding round was led by Chinese technology conglomerate Tencent, with additional support from OSS Capital, LUX, Naval Ravikant, and Tobias Lutke’s family office. This brings W4 Games’ total raised to $33 million since its founding in 2021 by Godot engine architects Juan Linietsky, Rémi Verschelde, and Fabio Alessandrelli.
The capital injection will be deployed to expand W4 Games’ international team by approximately 50 percent, accelerate development of its enterprise offerings, and support growing demand from enterprise developers adopting Godot. The company provides commercial services to game developers using Godot, including console porting and other platform-specific support.
Beyond the funding, W4 Games and Tencent have established a multi-year strategic partnership aimed at scaling the Godot ecosystem across Asia. The partnership will focus on fostering development and adoption of W4 Games’ technology throughout the region, positioning Godot to compete more aggressively in Asian markets where Tencent’s investments and influence carry significant weight.
The deal reflects growing recognition of Godot as a viable alternative to proprietary game engines, alongside increasing demand for open-source development tools in the enterprise sector. With Tencent’s backing, W4 Games is positioned to significantly expand Godot’s footprint and commercial viability globally.
