The Witcher 3 Remastered announced, an overhaul free for existing owners, while expansion Songs of the Past finally shown

CD Projekt Red announced two major updates for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The developer revealed The Witcher 3: Remastered, launching September 29, 2026, as a free upgrade for all existing owners on PC (Steam, Epic, GOG), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The remaster will also debut on Nintendo Switch 2 with a free upgrade path for current Switch owners, and arrive on Battle.net for the first time.

Developed in collaboration with Yigsoft, the Remastered edition represents a significant overhaul beyond visual enhancements. Gameplay improvements include reworked combat mechanics, improved traversal and movement systems, revamped mount handling, enhanced enemy behaviors, a reimagined skill tree, expanded finishers, and an enhanced photo mode. The remaster features updated lighting and graphics that modernize the 2015 RPG’s visual presentation.

Alongside the remaster announcement, CD Projekt Red unveiled the first look at Songs of the Past, the long-awaited expansion arriving in 2027—eleven years after the acclaimed Blood and Wine expansion. The new content introduces the region of Letten and a chain whip weapon, referencing Geralt’s favorite armament from the source material. Songs of the Past marks Geralt’s final adventure before The Witcher 4 shifts focus to Ciri.

The announcements included additional incentives: both original expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are now free for all players. The Remastered version adds Xbox Play Anywhere support and FSR 4.0 technology, with Battle.net purchasers receiving an exclusive Geralt-themed skin for Diablo 4. These updates position The Witcher 3 for continued engagement ahead of the series’ next chapter.
