Hugely anticipated anime RPG Ananta gets a January release date, as pre-registrations hit a whopping 17m sign-ups

Ananta, a free-to-play open-world anime RPG developed by China-based studio Naked Rain and published by NetEase, has officially received a worldwide release date of January 15, 2027. The game will launch simultaneously across PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile platforms.

The highly anticipated title has already demonstrated substantial market interest, with pre-registrations surpassing 17 million sign-ups. Ananta, which previously operated under the working title Project Mugen, draws visual and gameplay inspiration from Grand Theft Auto’s urban sandbox formula, reimagined with an anime aesthetic.

A new cinematic trailer was unveiled at Gamescom Opening Night Live, showcasing the game’s diverse feature set. Players will have access to open-world driving, cycling, skateboarding, and flying mechanics, complemented by combat systems including stealth gameplay and melee combat. The trailer also highlighted in-game social media apps, suggesting a rich virtual world with interactive elements beyond traditional gameplay.

The announcement marks a significant milestone for the project, which has been in development for several years. With nearly 17 million pre-registrations already secured, Ananta appears positioned to make a substantial impact on the gaming landscape upon its January 2027 launch.
