Atari Is Re-Releasing 39 Atari 2600 Games on Working, Physical Cartridges

Atari has announced a new physical collaboration with Activision, reuniting the two companies after nearly 50 years. The Atari x Activision Collection will bring 39 classic Activision games to market as working physical cartridges for the Atari 2600.

The collection will be released in multiple formats. Twelve games including Pitfall!, River Raid, Kaboom!, H.E.R.O., Megamania, Enduro, Private Eye, Pressure Cooker, River Raid II, and Keystone Kapers will receive individual “Standard Edition” releases at $35 each, starting in November. The Activision Decathlon and Pitfall II: Lost Caverns will ship at a later date.

Atari plans three different purchasing options for the collection, though full details remain incomplete. The re-release represents a significant achievement for game preservation, bringing these influential early 1980s titles back into circulation as playable physical media rather than solely through emulation or digital archival.

This partnership reunites two companies central to the early arcade and home gaming boom, with Activision’s early prominence built substantially on their Atari 2600 releases before the publisher expanded into broader gaming ventures.
