This D&D Game Made A Better First Impression Than Warlock

Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern is an upcoming tavern simulation game developed by Homo Ludens and published by Dotemu. Set in the Dalelands region of the Forgotten Realms, the game takes a different approach to traditional D&D gaming by focusing on the innkeepers and support structures behind adventuring, rather than the adventurers themselves.

Players assume the role of an entrepreneur who inherits a decrepit building and must transform it into a thriving tavern business. Core gameplay mechanics include hiring and managing staff, crafting recipes for food and drinks that enhance adventurers’ abilities, expanding and decorating the establishment, and managing rival innkeepers. The game title playfully references the “long rest” mechanic in D&D, the recovery period adventurers take between adventures.

Scheduled to release on PC in 2027, Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern has already drawn favorable comparisons to other recent D&D titles, notably the action-adventure game Warlock. The game represents an interesting diversification of the D&D gaming landscape, offering a unique management simulation experience rather than traditional combat-focused gameplay.
