Fallout 76 Public Test Server Goes Live on Console For PS5 and XBOX Series Update
Bethesda Game Studios has launched the Public Test Server for Fallout 76 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, marking the first time console gamers can access the testing platform. Beginning August 26th, players on current-generation consoles can now download and test upcoming features and updates before they roll out to the main game, providing early access to the native versions being developed for PS5 and Xbox Series platforms.
The Public Test Server acts as a separate testing environment where selected players—referred to as “insiders”—can evaluate new content, balance changes, and gameplay improvements. This represents a significant expansion of the PTS program, which has traditionally been available only to PC players through Steam.
Accessing the PTS differs between platforms. PC players simply download the PTS variant through Steam, but console players face a more involved process. Xbox players must navigate to the platform through the Xbox Insider Hub to gain access, with PlayStation players following comparable procedures on their respective platform.
The initiative serves as an experiment for Bethesda to gather console player feedback during the development cycle for the current-generation native versions of the post-apocalyptic RPG. By opening the PTS to console audiences ahead of the full launch, the studio can collect valuable testing data and player input to refine the console experience before official release.
