Final Fantasy VII Revelation Gets Pending Mature 17+ Rating, and Fan Theories Are Already Going Wild

Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the concluding chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, is set to release in Spring 2027 and will conclude Cloud’s story in their quest to protect the planet from the incoming Meteor. The game has now appeared on Xbox store listings with a pending Mature (17+) rating, which has surprised fans given the gameplay elements revealed so far.

Previous promotional material has showcased new features including submarine combat, traversal via the Highwind airship, and an explanation of the new FITS system. None of these gameplay mechanics would typically warrant a Mature rating, leading fans to speculate what story elements or other content could have prompted the higher age classification.

The rating discrepancy has sparked theories among the Final Fantasy VII community about what narrative developments or gameplay content might be responsible for the M-rating. The title is available to wishlist on all major platforms ahead of its Spring 2027 release window, marking the long-awaited conclusion to the reimagined Final Fantasy VII saga that began with the 2020 Remake.
