The Biggest Gaming Show In The West Continues To Grow

Gamescom 2026 is underway in Cologne, Germany, establishing itself as the premier gaming event in the Western world following E3’s discontinuation. The annual convention has sold out its entire 233,000 square-meter exhibition floor at Koelnmesse, with over 1,600 exhibitors showcasing their games and products.

While ChinaJoy remains the world’s largest gaming event with 438,000 attendees, Gamescom has grown substantially and continues to attract hundreds of thousands of participants. The event demonstrates the gaming industry’s sustained interest in large-scale conventions despite previous concerns about the viability of such shows.

Major publishers are well-represented at the exhibition, with significant booth investments from companies including Tencent, Hoyoverse, Ubisoft, and EA. Hoyoverse has particularly prominent space, featuring both new titles like Petit Planet and Honkai Nexus Anima alongside established live-service games including Genshin Impact, Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero.

The event features Gamescom Opening Night Live, a keynote showcase hosted by Geoff Keighley, which has become a traditional venue for major game announcements and trailers. The convention runs through August 30, with multiple gaming media outlets maintaining comprehensive coverage throughout the week and beyond.
