Even GTA 6 Is Poking Fun At Naughty Dog’s Lack Of New Games
Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 appears to take a subtle jab at Naughty Dog regarding the studio’s production pace during the PlayStation 5 generation. According to recent game leaks obtained by Cyberleek, GTA 6 contains numerous details hidden throughout its world, including in-game video game covers. One such cover is a thinly veiled reference to Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us franchise, reading “We Came Together: 1, 2, & 3 Remasters of the Remixes.”
The joke appears to target Naughty Dog’s extended absence from releasing new original titles on PS5. The studio has notably spent most of the current console generation without launching a brand-new game, focusing instead on remasters and remakes of existing franchises. While Naughty Dog is currently developing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the studio’s lack of new releases throughout much of the PS5 era has become a subject of commentary both from players and, evidently, from other developers.
The Easter egg discovered in GTA 6’s leaks highlights the meticulous level of detail Rockstar Games has embedded throughout the game world. Such in-game references and cultural commentary have become a hallmark of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, which often includes satirical nods to the gaming industry, pop culture, and other studios.
