The legendary Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is being remade by Ubisoft, and while it’s visually redone, it’s reportedly like-for-like in terms of gameplay
Ubisoft has announced a comprehensive remake of Heroes of Might and Magic 3, the acclaimed turn-based strategy RPG, set for release in 2027 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X. The remake was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live.
Ubisoft has rebuilt the classic game using its Snowdrop engine, delivering a substantial visual overhaul from the original’s 2D presentation to a detailed 3D world complete with dynamic weather effects, shifting seasons, and new animations. Despite these aesthetic improvements, the remake aims to preserve the original gameplay experience with a like-for-like design philosophy, maintaining the core strategic elements that made the 1999 original legendary.
Quality-of-life improvements have been incorporated into the remake, including a new three-mission prelude designed to introduce players to the game’s systems. This represents the third iteration of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 following the original release and a 2015 remaster.
The announcement comes amid a broader revival of the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise. Ubisoft is simultaneously backing development of Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, an entirely new entry currently in early access with a 1.0 launch planned for 2027. Additionally, the Complete Edition of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 recently became available on Steam for the first time.
