CD Projekt Red to distribute The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt on Blizzard’s Battle.net
CD Projekt Red and Blizzard Entertainment have announced a new strategic partnership beginning with the distribution of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered on Battle.net starting September 29. The remaster will be available for free to existing owners of the base game, allowing veterans to replay the acclaimed RPG with enhancements while encouraging new players to experience the story before the highly anticipated Songs of the Past expansion launches in 2027.
The partnership extends beyond The Witcher 3’s platform expansion. Blizzard will introduce a themed cosmetic skin featuring Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of The Witcher series, into Diablo 4. Players who purchase the Geralt skin through Blizzard’s store will gain access to the crossover cosmetic, marking the first collaboration between the two franchises.
This partnership represents the beginning of a broader relationship between CD Projekt Red and Blizzard, with both companies signaling plans for additional collaboration beyond these initial announcements. The deal showcases CD Projekt Red’s renewed focus on The Witcher 3 after the studio spent several years concentrating resources on Cyberpunk 2077 and its development.
The announcement was made during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live on August 25, providing major visibility for both titles. For CD Projekt Red, this partnership offers access to Blizzard’s established Battle.net player base and distribution infrastructure. For Blizzard, the Geralt crossover cosmetic provides Diablo 4 players with a premium character skin tie-in, potentially driving interest in The Witcher franchise among Blizzard’s community.
