Apple’s App Store team reveal their tips and tricks for getting featured
Apple’s App Store leadership revealed strategies for developers seeking featured placement on the platform during presentations at Gamescom Dev this week. Abhishek Radhakrishnan, who leads product and business development for the Apple Games app, and Sergey Kuznetsov, the App Store’s EU games editor, shared insights on launching and promoting games across Apple’s distribution channels.
The presenters highlighted the App Store’s scale and reach, with the platform attracting 850 million weekly visitors, operating on 2.5 billion devices, and maintaining 175 storefronts across 50 languages. Deep Rock Galactic Survivor by Funday Games served as a case study for monetisation strategies, specifically examining the “try before you buy” model—a free-to-play initial download paired with a €12.99 paywall to unlock the full premium game. Emil Kjaer from Funday Games reported the approach achieved a notable 13% conversion rate on the premium paywall, demonstrating viability for developers transitioning premium titles to the mobile market.
The session reflects Apple’s ongoing efforts to support game developers navigating the competitive App Store landscape while providing data-driven guidance on effective monetisation and acquisition strategies.
