Crunchyroll Anime App For Switch Shuts Down This October

Crunchyroll has announced the discontinuation of its Nintendo Switch app, effective October 30, 2026. The streaming service notified users via email, thanking them for their participation in the Crunchyroll community on the platform while directing them to access the service through alternative devices and platforms.

The app, which launched on the Nintendo eShop in February 2022, will reach the end of its four-year run on the hybrid console. While Crunchyroll did not specify the reasons for discontinuation in its announcement, such decisions typically reflect evolving platform strategies, resource allocation priorities, or shifts in licensing arrangements.

The shutdown follows a broader pattern among streaming services of consolidating their platform presence to focus on devices with larger user bases. By providing several months’ notice before the October deadline, Crunchyroll has given Switch users adequate time to transition to accessing the service on other platforms and devices.

Subscribers affected by the discontinuation can continue streaming anime through Crunchyroll’s web platform, mobile apps, and other supported devices. The decision emphasizes the service’s commitment to delivering its content across diversified platforms while adjusting its presence based on usage patterns and business priorities.
