Nobody Remembers The DC Video Game That Introduced Lanterns’ Villains

The HBO series Lanterns has introduced the Manhunters as a major season-spanning threat. These shapeshifting beings originated in 1970s DC Comics as precursors to the Green Lantern Corps before being replaced following their rebellion against the Guardians of the Universe. Their role in Lanterns aligns with the show’s thematic focus on replacement and succession, making them an ideal antagonist for the series.

However, the Manhunters’ first appearance in adapted media predates the HBO series by over a decade. The 2011 Green Lantern film’s tie-in video game featured these villains in a storyline centered on succession—the same thematic element that would later become central to Lanterns. This forgotten game introduction of the Manhunters remains largely unknown to audiences today, obscured by the relative obscurity of the film’s multimedia tie-ins.
