GTA 6 officially has character weight and exercise systems, and even “multi-day benders” reportedly have a visible effect

Rockstar Games unveiled extensive gameplay for Grand Theft Auto 6 in a 26-minute “Extended Look” exclusive to Netflix on August 27, 2026, generating such massive viewer interest that the streaming platform temporarily crashed. The long-awaited sequel will launch November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The demonstration highlighted an expanded Vice City with a map three times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2’s and twice the size of GTA 5’s. The game features over 600,000 animations—more than ten times GTA 5 and double Red Dead Redemption 2’s count.

Key gameplay systems include character management where eating and exercise visibly affect protagonists Jason and Lucia’s physiques, including visible deterioration from sleep deprivation or “multi-day benders.” The returning six-star Wanted system works alongside a new Criminal Profile tracking player violence, while NPCs react more realistically to weapons and player actions.

The dual-protagonist system allows seamless character switching, with a relationship mechanic letting players determine whether Jason and Lucia remain romantic partners or purely crime associates. Car-jacking and driving feature expanded mechanics with varied methods based on vehicle type, replacing the series’ simpler instant-theft formula.

Rockstar confirmed no microtransactions at launch and that no generative AI was used in development. The main campaign requires approximately 80 hours to complete, with extensive side activities enriching the open world. The game will target 30 frames per second on PS5, with developers undecided about a performance mode.
