Twitch suffers major outage following Grand Theft Auto 6’s extended look gameplay trailer premiere
Twitch suffered a major outage affecting multiple critical systems shortly after Grand Theft Auto 6’s extended gameplay presentation premiered on Netflix. The disruption impacted the platform’s web interface, chat functionality, and video services.
The outage occurred as top streamers including Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed were conducting live reactions to the GTA 6 extended look on their Twitch channels. By co-streaming the Netflix premiere, these content creators allowed their viewers to access the presentation directly through Twitch without requiring a Netflix subscription—a practice that likely generated significant concurrent viewership on the platform.
The timing of the outage, coinciding with the highly anticipated GTA 6 premiere and widespread simultaneous co-streaming on Twitch, suggests the exceptional traffic generated by the event may have strained the platform’s infrastructure. The Grand Theft Auto series remains one of gaming’s most popular franchises, and the extended gameplay reveal was eagerly anticipated by the community.
