CD Projekt Red Enlisted Modder to Help Make The Witcher 3 Look Better Than Ever in New Remaster
CD Projekt Red has officially announced that acclaimed modder HalkHogan will contribute to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, with their work being incorporated directly into the game. HalkHogan, creator of The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project (HDRP), confirmed the collaboration via an update on Nexus Mods.
The HDRP mod has become a cornerstone of The Witcher 3’s modding community, with the 2024 version accumulating over 325,000 unique downloads and 1.6 million views. The earlier “OldGen” version, released in 2015, has reached 1.7 million unique downloads, demonstrating significant community demand for enhanced graphics that caught CD Projekt Red’s attention.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered was revealed at Gamescom with promises of significant visual improvements alongside enhanced combat mechanics, improved monster behaviors, and upgraded traversal systems. The remaster launches September 29 across PC and consoles as a free update. This partnership mirrors CD Projekt Red’s approach with the 2022 next-gen update, showing the studio’s ongoing commitment to collaborating with talented community creators. HalkHogan’s involvement means HDRP “will no longer be needed,” as the modder’s improvements are now officially integrated into the game—a rare instance where a fan-created project gains official status rather than being rendered obsolete.
