It’s Time I Let Go Of My Favorite Alien Isolation 2 Theory
Creative Assembly’s consistent messaging about Alien Isolation 2’s protagonist Blake throughout development has led one GameSpot writer to abandon a long-held theory about the game’s narrative structure. The author initially believed Blake would serve as a temporary character who would be killed early, allowing Amanda Ripley—the protagonist of the original Alien Isolation—to take over as the true playable character. After playing a demo at Summer Game Fest’s Play Days in June, however, the writer reconsidered their hypothesis.
The developer’s repeated emphasis on Blake’s story in all communications suggests Creative Assembly isn’t hiding a major narrative twist. The substantial investment the studio has shown in discussing and developing Blake’s character arc makes a bait-and-switch scenario increasingly unlikely. This reflects a deliberate creative choice to introduce a new protagonist for the sequel rather than returning Ripley as the main character. While Ripley may still appear in Alien Isolation 2, Blake appears to be the true focal point of the game’s narrative.
