Assassin’s Creed Creator Promises to No longer Use AI in 1666: Amsterdam’s Development

Patrice Désilets, the creator of the Assassin’s Creed franchise and current Creative Director at Panache Games, has announced that 1666: Amsterdam will no longer use generative AI in its development. The game was featured at Summer Game Fest and released a prologue during the summer, but these announcements were overshadowed by revelations that generative AI had been used in the development process.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Désilets clarified that generative AI was used during the conception and pre-production phases of development. In response to criticism and backlash from the gaming community, the studio has completely removed all AI elements from the project and committed to not using AI in any future development of the game.

This decision reflects growing concerns within the gaming industry about the use of generative AI tools in creative production. The removal of AI from a major title signals developer responsiveness to player sentiment and industry concerns regarding artificial intelligence in game creation. The commitment to exclude AI-generated content going forward demonstrates how quickly industry attitudes toward generative AI in game development are shifting in response to community feedback.
