Playdate maker Panic is passing tariff refunds on to customers

Panic, the developer behind the crank-powered Playdate handheld console, is issuing refunds to customers who purchased the device while US tariffs were in effect. The Playdate launched in 2022 and subsequently became subject to tariffs as part of broader import duties affecting gaming hardware.

Following a Supreme Court ruling mandating that the US government refund these tariff fees, Panic has begun contacting affected customers to inform them of incoming refunds. The company is processing reimbursements to customers’ original payment methods via email notification.

Customers who believe they qualify for a refund but have not yet received notification can contact Panic directly at [email protected]. The company’s decision to pass tariff refunds directly to its customer base contrasts with some other hardware manufacturers’ approaches, representing a commitment to offset the financial impact of tariffs for Playdate owners.
