‘Sidequests are almost my reason for doing videogames in the first place:’ The dev behind one of the coolest upcoming RPGs says its word count is ballooning because they just love side stories so much

The developer behind the upcoming early access RPG Entropy has revealed that their passion for side quests is driving significant expansion in the game’s word count. The studio, known for creating Dread Delusion—a first-person Elder Scrolls-inspired RPG praised for its exceptional side content—continues to prioritize narrative depth in peripheral storylines.

Entropy features experimental JRPG-style combat set in a bizarre, fallen world. The developer emphasized that side quests represent a core part of their design philosophy, stating they are “almost my reason for doing videogames in the first place.” This commitment to quality side content extends from their previous work, where Dread Delusion included memorable quests such as a moral dilemma involving vegetarian zombies and a Blade Runner 2049-inspired investigation into a person erased from history.

The expanding word count reflects the studio’s determination not to compromise on narrative quality during early access development. Rather than treating side quests as secondary content, the developer approaches them with the same creative investment as main storylines. This approach prioritizes storytelling depth and player experience, suggesting that Entropy’s final word count may exceed initial projections and distinguishing the title within the competitive RPG landscape.
