Yellowstone and Lioness Games Could Be in Paramount Games’ Future

Paramount Pictures is officially entering the video game industry with the establishment of Paramount Games Studio, announced at Summer Game Fest. The multimedia conglomerate, which owns major intellectual properties including Avatar: The Last Airbender, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Star Trek, has created this new division to develop games based on its extensive catalog.

The studio’s inaugural project is a collaboration with acclaimed action-game developer PlatinumGames (known for the Bayonetta series) to create a video game adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. The game is positioned as a darker, grittier interpretation set in a futuristic New York City, aligning with PlatinumGames’ expertise in action-oriented gameplay.

The announcement suggests that Paramount Games Studio has broader ambitions for its portfolio. Both Yellowstone, the successful television drama series, and Lioness, Paramount’s sports thriller, have been mentioned as potential candidates for future game adaptations, though no official projects beyond The Last Ronin have been greenlit.

This move represents Paramount’s strategic effort to capitalize on the growing video game market and leverage its existing intellectual property in a new medium. By partnering with experienced developers like PlatinumGames rather than building internal expertise from scratch, Paramount is taking a measured approach to gaming while maintaining quality control through established industry talent.
