Godzilla Remaster Devs Explain Why They Aren’t Worried About Releasing Near GTA 6
The remaster of 2002’s Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is bucking industry trends by launching in November 2024, mere days after Grand Theft Auto 6’s November 19 release. The industry consensus holds that GTA 6’s massive cultural impact will dominate the month, prompting most publishers to avoid November launches entirely. However, the developers at Pipeworks showed no such concern—senior designer Simon Strange revealed that Rockstar’s game was “never part of our thinking” when selecting the arena fighter’s release date.
While the belief is that GTA 6 will consume attention in the weeks before and after launch due to its 13-year development cycle, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered has emerged as one of the rare titles willing to challenge that assumption. Rather than fear cannibalization from the gaming industry’s most anticipated release, the team appears confident enough in their remaster’s appeal to launch alongside it.
