EXCLUSIVE: Modern Warfare 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Port Was a “Fantastical Challenge,” Dev Says

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is heading to Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first mainline Call of Duty title to arrive on a Nintendo platform since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. Developer Digital Legends is handling the port, which the team describes as a “fantastical challenge” due to the significant technical differences between the Switch 2’s hardware and the platforms the game was originally developed for, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

The development team has needed to carefully approach the project to determine how much of the complete Call of Duty experience can be delivered on Nintendo’s hybrid console. During an interview at Gamescom, Digital Legends Associate Production Director Beatriz Gonzalez acknowledged the technical difficulties inherent in the port while expressing confidence in the final product. Despite the complexity of adapting a major AAA release to substantially different hardware, the developer believes the effort will ultimately prove worthwhile for Switch 2 players. Specific details about graphics optimization, performance targets, and feature parity with other platforms remain to be disclosed.
