Here’s every announcement from Pokémon World Championships
The 2026 Pokémon World Championships concluded in San Francisco this weekend, coinciding with the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebration and the inaugural PokémonXP fan event. The closing ceremony served as a platform for major announcements regarding upcoming Pokémon media projects.
The franchise announced Pokémon: Wild Card, a feature-length animated film scheduled for release in 2027—marking the franchise’s first theatrical film release in several years. The movie centers on an aspiring Pokémon Trading Card Game player and prominently features Mimikyu, the Disguise Pokémon. The film is being produced by Story inc. and CloverWorks.
Additionally, attendees received their first substantial look at Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, a stop-motion animated series developed by acclaimed studio Aardman. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2027.
These announcements underscore the Pokémon franchise’s continued expansion beyond traditional trading card games and video games into diverse media formats, with particular emphasis on theatrical and streaming television productions.
