With GTA 6 leaker hunt ‘rapidly evolving,’ Take-Two asks court to keep latest subpoena request sealed to avoid tipping off leakers
Take-Two Interactive is intensifying its investigation into the Grand Theft Auto 6 leakers through additional legal action. The company has filed subpoena requests with Discord and Microsoft seeking information about the individuals responsible for the breach. Importantly, Take-Two has requested that the court keep these subpoena details sealed and confidential.
The reason for maintaining secrecy is straightforward: Take-Two fears that if the alleged leakers discover the investigation details, they could destroy evidence or take steps to evade detection. In its court filing, the company describes the investigation as “rapidly evolving” and emphasizes that the documents contain “highly sensitive, confidential information” that must remain protected.
The GTA 6 leaks occurred earlier this year and released significant amounts of confidential game footage and development information. In the aftermath, various scams exploited the situation—including one fraudulent scheme claiming to sell leaked data that managed to collect over $200,000 before disappearing.
Take-Two’s aggressive legal strategy underscores the severity of the breach and the publisher’s commitment to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for compromising its valuable intellectual property. The company’s pursuit suggests investigators may be narrowing in on potential suspects.
