Some of WoW’s hardest dungeons and raids have gotten just a bit easier—that’s on purpose, developers say
World of Warcraft developers are intentionally making some of the game’s hardest dungeons and raids easier to encourage broader player participation and improve class balance. According to Paul Kubit, associate game director for the Midnight expansion, the changes are designed to help players feel more comfortable engaging with challenging content, particularly those interested in trying traditionally under-represented roles like tanking and healing.
One specific adjustment targets Mythic Plus, WoW’s time-attack dungeon mode, which was modified to make it easier for players to reach mythic-level rewards through the weekly vault system. These subtle difficulty reductions are intended to create cascading positive effects throughout the game community, including increased participation in high-end content and a more balanced distribution of players across the three main specializations.
The design philosophy reflects developers’ recognition that lowering entry barriers to challenging content can help retain players and encourage them to explore different playstyles they might otherwise avoid.
