Xbox CEO Says Making Halo Popular Again Is A Priority, But Franchise Co-Creator Questions If It’s Possible
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has declared that reviving the Halo franchise is a priority for the company, emphasizing Microsoft’s commitment to the long-term future of what she called a “very key franchise” for Xbox’s portfolio. In an interview with the BBC, Sharma acknowledged that Halo has declined from its former prominence but expressed confidence in its importance to the gaming landscape.
Sharma highlighted that successful games often benefit from a long-term strategy and emphasized the franchise’s historical significance within Xbox’s identity. “The thing that I am learning about great games is that they have a long history and heritage and we can take a long-term view,” she stated, noting that Halo represents “a very key memory structure and way that people want to play.”
The CEO indicated that more details about Xbox’s plans for Halo will be shared in the future, suggesting ongoing development efforts are underway. This statement comes amid the franchise’s recent struggles to maintain its player base and cultural relevance, though Microsoft appears committed to restoring it to its former prominence as a cornerstone of the Xbox brand.
