Xbox Disc To Digital Is Now Live For Some Users, And Here’s A First Look
Xbox’s long-awaited Disc to Digital feature is now live for Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings. The program, formerly codenamed “Positron,” allows players to insert physical Xbox One or Xbox Series X discs into their console to receive free digital copies of the games, along with access to Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere benefits where applicable.
The rollout supports thousands of games at launch, with more expected to be added in the future. However, no official list of compatible titles has been published on Xbox’s website yet, prompting community members to begin creating their own comprehensive lists of supported and unsupported games. Some notable absences from the initial compatibility list include Forza Horizon 6, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and Elden Ring, though these may receive support later.
The feature has been widely praised as a significant game preservation win, as it allows players to maintain their physical game libraries in digital form while retaining compatibility benefits and cloud gaming access. The process is reportedly straightforward—simply inserting a compatible disc is all that’s required to claim the digital version. The feature is expected to roll out more widely to other Xbox users in the coming months following the initial Insider testing period.
