‘I Don’t Think There’s Any Plan’: Kit Harington Gives Disappointing Update on His Marvel Future as Black Knight

Kit Harington has confirmed that his Marvel Cinematic Universe character Black Knight will not be returning to the franchise. The Game of Thrones actor played Dane Whitman in the 2021 film Eternals, which concluded with a post-credits scene suggesting the character would appear in future MCU projects. When asked about his MCU future, Harington stated: “I don’t think there’s any plan to. I hate to break it to you.”

This confirmation aligns with prior statements from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who announced in 2022 that there were no plans for an Eternals sequel. Despite the post-credits setup, no progress on Black Knight or any other Eternals characters has materialized in the four years since the film’s release.

The abandonment of the character reflects the broader underperformance of Eternals, which received poor critical reception and failed to meet commercial expectations despite its star-studded ensemble cast and Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao. The film’s struggles have resulted in Marvel Studios effectively shelving its characters and storylines.

The unresolved Black Knight arc represents one of several abandoned plot threads from Eternals’ post-credits scenes, including the introduction of Harry Styles as Thanos’ brother—another loose end that has never been addressed by the MCU.
