League of Legends to Add Voice Modifiers for Voice Chat

League of Legends is set to introduce voice modifiers to its upcoming voice chat system. Dataminers discovered “Voice Skins” in the Public Beta Environment (PBE), revealing that Riot Games is planning to implement VoiceMod technology to let players customize their voices during in-game communication.

While Riot Games confirmed in March that voice chat would eventually arrive in League of Legends, development timelines remain unclear. The newly discovered voice modification feature could represent a significant addition to the voice chat rollout, potentially allowing players to alter their voices either to sound like League champions or to simply change the tone and characteristics of their voice.

Beyond novelty, the feature addresses important player safety concerns. Voice filters could provide increased privacy for players and may help protect female gamers from harassment and sexist remarks—a persistent issue in competitive gaming communities. By allowing players to modify their voices, Riot Games could create a more inclusive environment where players feel comfortable participating in voice communication without fear of discrimination based on voice characteristics.

The exact implementation details remain uncertain, but the inclusion of voice modifiers alongside standard voice chat functionality suggests Riot Games is taking steps to make voice communication more accessible and welcoming for all players. This aligns with broader industry efforts to create safer gaming spaces while introducing engaging new features for the community.
