Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Has Been Updated To Version 4.0.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, one of the Nintendo Switch’s most successful titles with 71 million players, has received a significant version 4.0.0 update that brings support for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The free update enhances the nearly decade-old racing game with features specifically optimized for Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.
The update delivers clearer visuals designed for the Switch 2’s improved display and high-resolution televisions, alongside notably faster load times. Most notably, it expands the game’s split-screen multiplayer capabilities, enabling up to eight players on a single screen when playing on Switch 2—double the four-player limit on the original Switch. The update also adds support for 5-8 players in multiplayer modes and introduces CameraPlay support.
The expansion of multiplayer functionality represents a substantial improvement for the game’s social gaming appeal. Booster Course Pass owners also receive new features with the update. Nintendo’s continued support for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe—originally released in 2017—underscores the game’s importance as a flagship title for the Switch ecosystem and its likely role as a launch window title for Switch 2.
