Tomb Raider Series Broke UK Crew Safety Laws, Report Confirms, Months After Star Sophie Turner Injured in Separate Incident
Amazon MGM Studios’ new Tomb Raider television series has been found to have violated UK health and safety regulations during production. The production failed its “biological monitoring” duties when handling isocyanate paints, hazardous chemicals that require strict safety protocols including appropriate personal protective equipment, trained handlers, and up to 20 minutes of air clearance after use. These chemicals can trigger asthma attacks. The required safety measures were not followed during filming.
The safety breach emerged months after cast member Sophie Turner sustained an injury on set, which temporarily halted production. While Turner’s incident was separate from the chemical handling violations, it highlights broader workplace safety concerns on the production. The findings underscore ongoing challenges in ensuring proper safety standards on major film and television productions, particularly regarding hazardous material handling and crew protection protocols.
