Double Fine’s famous game jam returns with 26 new ideas and a promise to make Brutal Legend 2, if its Kickstarter stretch goal is met
Double Fine has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Amnesia Fortnight 2026, marking the return of the studio’s semi-regular game jam following its recent independence from Microsoft. The crowdfunding initiative, which launched on August 31, seeks to raise $400,000 and has already exceeded its goal within two days.
Amnesia Fortnight is an in-house event where Double Fine developers pause regular work to spend two weeks pitching and developing game prototypes. The 2026 edition appears to be the first since Microsoft’s 2019 acquisition of the studio. The Kickstarter campaign serves dual purposes: raising funds and allowing the community to vote on which game ideas they want to see developed further, with 26 new concepts presented this year.
The campaign’s most prominent feature is a $100 million stretch goal, at which point Double Fine has pledged to develop Brutal Legend 2. The studio has emphasized this is a genuine commitment rather than a hypothetical aspiration. Brutal Legend, originally released in 2009, remains a notable entry in Double Fine’s portfolio, and a sequel has been long-requested by fans.
With over a month remaining in the campaign, the fundraiser has demonstrated significant community interest in both the game jam concept and Double Fine’s return to independence.
