Don’t Care About GTA 6’s Romance System? Don’t Use It, Dev Says

Rockstar Games has clarified that Grand Theft Auto 6’s romance system is entirely optional for players uninterested in pursuing it. In an interview with IGN, Rockstar’s Rob Nelson explained that players can choose to engage romantically with the game’s dual protagonists, Jason and Lucia, or simply treat them as crime partners without romantic involvement.

For players who do wish to explore the romance mechanics, Nelson described various romantic activities including holding hands, visiting a zoo together, and taking romantic walks on the beach. However, players who prefer to skip these features entirely can do so without penalty.

Nelson hinted that engaging with the romance storyline may unlock additional narrative benefits or consequences, cautioning that players who ignore it might miss out on other gameplay elements. He declined to provide specifics to avoid spoilers, emphasizing the optional nature of the system.

The clarification reflects Rockstar’s design philosophy of offering varied playstyles and player agency, allowing players to customize their experience based on personal preferences.
