The Grand Theft Auto run button has changed after 25 years - GTA 6 no longer requires you to tap a face button to peg it

Grand Theft Auto 6 is making a significant change to a control scheme that has defined the franchise for nearly 25 years. In previous GTA games, sprinting required players to constantly tap the X button (PlayStation) or A button (Xbox)—a design choice that has become one of the most criticized aspects of Rockstar’s controls. GTA 6 is abandoning this approach in favor of a more modern control scheme.

According to YouTuber MikeShowSha, who had early access to preview GTA 6 ahead of its release, the new game will use the L3 button (left analog stick click) to trigger running instead. This revelation came in response to fan questions about character movement and how it compares to previous GTA titles and Red Dead Redemption 2.

The change has sparked mixed reactions among the GTA community, with some fans celebrating the quality-of-life improvement while others have expressed concerns about whether the new scheme feels natural. The L3 button approach is more common in modern games and reduces the need for repetitive button mashing during extended play sessions, addressing a long-standing complaint from the player base.
