Capcom quietly releases new trailers for Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance, teasing changes to all 14 weapon types
Capcom has begun releasing daily gameplay videos for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the game’s first major expansion arriving in 2027. Each video showcases new changes and mechanics for one of the game’s 14 weapon types, with releases timed ahead of the Tokyo Game Show later in September where additional expansion details are expected.
The expansion’s centerpiece is the Boost Bracer, a new mechanic that enhances combat capabilities across all weapon types. Players build Boost Bracer energy through aggressive offensive play, filling a meter displayed on-screen. Once sufficiently charged, activating a Boost Driver attack or weapon-specific action enables “Boost” mode, which strengthens existing attacks and adds new combos tailored to each weapon. The mechanic has drawn comparisons to Devil May Cry’s combat system, particularly Nero’s moveset, due to its high-octane, combo-focused gameplay flow.
Ascendance introduces Master Rank challenges alongside new monsters—including elder dragons—and a new hunting region called the Eastlands. The expansion requires the base Monster Hunter Wilds game to play and releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Capcom had initially been expected to reveal expansion details at Gamescom 2026 before shifting the announcement focus to Tokyo Game Show.
