Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date Countdown & Launch Times
Capcom is reviving its long-dormant Onimusha franchise with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, arriving September 4, 2026—nearly two years after its announcement at The Game Awards in 2024. The action-slasher series, which has remained largely absent from the gaming landscape in recent years, is finally making its return.
The new entry marks a significant comeback for the franchise, introducing fresh mechanics and an entirely new story while maintaining the core action-slasher gameplay that defined the original series. Rather than a remake or remaster, Way of the Sword offers players entirely new experiences within the Onimusha universe.
The timing places the game within September 2026, which is shaping up to be one of the busiest gaming months in recent memory. Onimusha: Way of the Sword will help kick off this crowded release window, giving players a chance to experience the franchise’s revival firsthand. The game’s arrival marks an important moment for the series as the long anticipation since its announcement finally comes to an end.
