After 10 Years, Pokémon Go is Getting a Pokémon Anime Crossover Episode
Pokémon Go, Niantic’s wildly successful mobile game that launched a decade ago, is marking its 10th anniversary with a historic crossover into the long-running Pokémon anime series. The collaboration features a special episode of Pokémon Horizons that aired in Japan on September 18, 2026, bringing together the game and anime universes for the first time.
In this landmark episode, Professor Willow—the character who serves as players’ mentor in Pokémon Go—makes his debut in the anime, accompanied by his partner Pokémon Meltan. The episode also features a PokéStop, the real-world location marker that forms the foundation of Pokémon Go’s gameplay mechanics, being incorporated directly into the anime narrative.
To complement the crossover, The Pokémon Company launched a special in-game event for Pokémon Go players. The centerpiece is an exclusive Charmander wearing Friede’s goggles, a cosmetic detail that persists as the Pokémon evolves into Charmeleon and Charizard. Players can earn bonuses through the Go Pass system, with Tier 1 providing double candy for caught Pokémon and additional rewards in higher tiers.
This collaboration marks a significant moment for Pokémon Go, which has maintained substantial player engagement over a full decade through regular updates, events, and seasonal content. The anime crossover represents rare cross-media integration for the franchise, directly bridging the mobile gaming experience with the anime’s narrative universe.
