Sony Is Making 59% More Revenue Per PlayStation User Since PS4 Generation, Says Analyst

According to analyst data from Niko Partners, Sony is generating 59% more revenue per active PlayStation user in the PS5 generation compared to the PS4 era—approximately $230 additional annual spending per average active player. The metric increased from 23,580 Yen in fiscal year 2018 to higher levels today. This monetization growth comes as Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki explained the company’s reduced aggressive marketing approach for the PS5. The revenue increase suggests players are spending more across various channels including game purchases, subscriptions like PlayStation Plus, and in-game monetization, despite potentially lower hardware sales velocity compared to the previous console cycle.
