Over 700 games launched on Steam in one week for the first time, though 74% had fewer than 10 reviews
Steam has reached a historic milestone with over 700 games launching in a single week—a record achievement that occurred a month ahead of industry projections. According to data from ICO Partners CEO Thomas Bidaux, 720 titles were released on the platform during the week in question.
However, the high volume masks a concerning trend in game discoverability and market saturation. A significant majority of releases—74 percent—received fewer than 10 reviews, with 530 games falling into the zero-to-nine review category. This limited engagement suggests that most new releases struggle to gain visibility among potential players.
Only 190 games achieved more than 10 reviews, indicating a steep quality or popularity divide. The distribution narrows further at higher engagement levels: 95 games received over 50 reviews, 62 exceeded 100 reviews, and just 10 titles surpassed 1,000 reviews.
The data highlights an ongoing challenge for the Steam platform: while it enables unprecedented numbers of independent developers to publish their work, the sheer volume creates friction for discovery. Games with minimal review counts face uphill battles for visibility in an increasingly crowded marketplace, potentially pushing players toward algorithmic recommendations or established titles. The milestone, though significant, underscores the tension between democratized access and market saturation that defines modern digital distribution.
