The Witcher Remake Is on Hold Until The Witcher 4’s Development Progresses, Confirms CD Projekt Red
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher remake has been placed on hold as development priorities shift toward other major projects. Fool’s Theory, the independent developer studio contracted to remake the original Witcher game, is currently focused on supporting The Witcher 4’s development while simultaneously creating the “Songs of the Past” expansion for The Witcher 3.
Songs of the Past, which was announced as a surprise DLC for The Witcher 3, is scheduled to release in 2027 and has become a significant undertaking for Fool’s Theory. Meanwhile, the majority of CD Projekt Red’s internal team continues work on The Witcher 4, the next mainline entry in the beloved fantasy RPG franchise.
The pause on the remake project appears to be temporary. CD Projekt Red’s statement indicates that work on the remake will resume once The Witcher 4’s development has progressed sufficiently. This strategic decision reflects the company’s desire to maintain momentum on its flagship upcoming title while delivering new content for The Witcher 3, one of its most successful releases.
