Borderlands 4’s New Vault Hunter Is a Throwback to Borderlands 2’s Best Character
Borderlands 4 is receiving its sixth playable Vault Hunter character on September 10 with the launch of the “FL4K and the Last Resort” expansion. The new character, Loveless the Hacker, addresses a notable gap in the game’s roster by introducing an assassin archetype—a role that was iconic in Borderlands 2 through the character Zer0.
Developed by Gearbox Software, Loveless brings high-tech combat powers and entirely new combat mechanics to the looter-shooter experience. The character’s design represents both creative lore expansion and a modern reimagining of the classic assassin role for contemporary players. The development team incorporated topical humor into the character, referencing current challenges in the technology industry, including the ongoing RAM crisis affecting tech professionals.
The addition of Loveless fills a strategic gap in Borderlands 4’s character lineup, allowing players to experience stealth and precision-focused gameplay that made Zer0 a fan-favorite in the franchise’s earlier installments. This expansion continues Gearbox’s post-launch support for the game through new playable characters and content.
