Dave Bautista Shows Off His Transformation Into God Of War’s Kratos

Dave Bautista has been officially cast as Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming God of War television series, replacing actor Ryan Hurst who suffered a serious injury during production. The Guardians of the Galaxy star and former professional wrestler is undertaking an intensive training regimen to prepare for the physically demanding role.

Bautista shared his progress on Instagram, posting a video three weeks into a new weight training program. He noted that he has approximately two more months to “get to where [he] needs to be” before filming resumes, indicating production is expected to restart within that timeframe. The compressed timeline is notable compared to typical film production schedules, where actors often have six to twelve months or more to prepare for major roles.

Despite already possessing an impressive physique from his wrestling and acting career, Bautista is pushing his physical preparation to new levels to match Kratos’ iconic appearance. Previously, he had bulked up significantly for his role in M. Night Shyamalan’s “Knock at the Cabin,” though he had lost most of that mass before his Kratos casting.

The God of War TV series, produced for Prime Video, marks a significant adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game franchise. Bautista’s casting was announced after Hurst’s departure, and his involvement has drawn attention due to his established reputation for taking on physically demanding roles.
