Final Fantasy 7 Revelation finally gets a 2027 release date, as Final Fantasy Resonance gets a surprise demo
Square Enix has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will release on April 8, 2027, marking the conclusion of the acclaimed remake trilogy that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020. The announcement was made by director Naoki Hamaguchi during Sony’s PlayStation State of Play event, accompanied by a 10-minute gameplay demonstration.
The game will launch simultaneously across all platforms—PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store—making it the first title in the series to release on all platforms at the same time. This represents a nearly six-year span since the original 2020 release of the first remake installment.
The gameplay footage revealed several notable features. The eight playable party members—Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie, Cait Sith, Vincent, and Cid—are all confirmed. Square Enix showcased the new FITS system, which ties character abilities to specific outfits, drawing inspiration from systems seen in Final Fantasy X-2 and Lightning Returns. The Highwind airship serves as the party’s customizable base and primary means of traversing the game world, alongside land-based transportation options like Chocobos and motorcycles.
Combat demonstrates team-up abilities, such as Vincent’s Galian Beast form combining with Red XIII, and aerial attacks from Tifa and Yuffie. A boss encounter featuring a motorcycle sequence was also highlighted.
Following the base game’s April 2027 launch, Square Enix plans to release two story expansions over the subsequent 12 months, with confirmed DLC featuring characters Sephiroth and Vincent. Pre-orders have already begun on multiple platforms, with standard edition pricing starting at $69.99/£69.99.
